The No-Nonsense Guide to Online College Faculty Positions

The popularity of distance education with new and returning college students, many of whom are strapped for time every day due to family and employment commitments, is growing by leaps and bounds since they can earn an online university degree from their personal computers at any time of the day or night. Since the eagerness with which college students are accepting the ease of attending online college courses as a way to earn an online nursing degree or a health administration degree online is causing the academic institutions to provide more and more online bachelor degree programs and online master degree programs, there is a growing need for academically qualified individuals to fill the online college faculty positions that result from large student enrollments in accredited online degree programs. However, teaching for online bachelor degree programs can be labor intensive from the perspective of the amount of focused attention an online adjunct instructor must give to the tasks required by having multiple online adjunct jobs with a number of colleges and universities.

For example, every online degree program will have its own firm time deadlines for grading student work. These deadlines for submission of grades are monitored by computer programs which send notices to supervisors of online college instructors when the deadlines are not met in a timely fashion. The same monitoring by a computer applies to participation in the discussion forums and to the number of times during the week that the online instructor logs into the online college classroom.

The simple fact of the matter is that computer monitoring is a fact of life for online college instructors, but with a serious time management skills set this need not be an issue. The teaching work must be done and it must be accomplished within the time parameters set by the online university programs. Further, since there is a large and growing body of legitimate candidates for the available online teaching positions, the competition grows stronger every day. Still, the benefits of teaching online for an online bachelor degree program or an online master degree program are very attractive in an economic landscape decimated by failing budgets at all levels of education.

The most productive search method for finding and applying for online adjunct employment opportunities is just as much work as the actual online teaching itself, but, as with most activities that are extremely beneficial, the effort is well worth it because the ultimate payoff is being able to earn multiple paychecks for an inexpensive personal computer from anywhere in the world that has access to the Internet. While there are several very good academic job websites that should not be ignored since they can list actual online teaching opportunities, a much more effective and efficient way to search for available online college faculty positions is to visit the websites of every technical school, community college, state college, four-year university and for profit school and apply directly to the school of online adjunct teaching jobs. This search approach will take a considerable abut of time in the beginning, but as the application process is repeated over and over it will become almost second nature. Eventually, the direct method of searching for online adjunct jobs will result in an invitation to attending the mandatory training program required by the various schools before being placed at the head of an online college class. Yes, this is a no-nonsense approach to teaching online, but it works.
